  1. Juan Livotto

Juan Livotto passing
From: Jim Parker

Roger,
Pierre Brun informed me that Juan Livotto passed away last night, Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the age of 90. Juan was of the second generation of the Southern California Aero Team in the 1970’s through the 1990’s. He set the standard in the club with his F1A designs and hand crafted tow hooks. His designs and abundant building were amazing contributions to the progress of FAI Free Flight in the USA and around the world. He held many SCAT officer positions and CD’d the Southern California Invitational (aka the “Livotto”) with the coveted Jet Turbine Blade perpetual trophies for over 20 years. Juan was a F1A USA team member– I remember well being the first alternate to the WC in Spain.

Juan produced some the first composite F1A D-boxes. He gave me a set of D-boxes that I used on the model I maxed out with at the 1991 WC for which I’m always in remembrance. On one visit  with Pierre Brun to Juan’s we watched him build an F1A wing, changed the oil and plugs on his sports car (MG midget?) and then fire up the grill to cook dinner. It was truely amazing to watch a master work!

His is missed.
