North American Cup and About Time
The North American Cup CD’s have been working with Fredric Aberlenc (Mini Neurone supplier) and his programmer to test a new way to enter scores automatically using the About Time website and the NeuroTrack GPS app. This should also be possible with All-Tee but some more work may need to be done to harmonize the results.
When using the NeuroTrack app on a Smart phone, you can look at the altimeter graph from your flight.
Below the graph you can find a small Cloud symbol with a vertical arrow (See below).
This button can be clicked to send the data to the “cloud” or more specifically to the “About Time” website.
When you push the Cloud button a dialog box will appear.
You fill in your name and FAI ID, Country Code and Category. Note you only need to do this once. For our purposes, the most important box to complete correctly is the FAI ID box. From this information several new things are possible. Hit ok and your data is away to the cloud!
You should get a notice of the successful uploading of your data in a small dialog box.
If you get a failure it is likely due to a poor internet connection. The NA Cup team will have a wifi hotspot available if you have issues with internet reception on the field. (not all carriers work well at Lost Hills).
Note: if you wish to enter your scores electronically, and you get the error box, please come to the CD’s with your standard score card.
The About Time website has two modes of viewing. “List View” and “Event View”
We want to look at Event View
The site can be reached here: https://abouttime.flyingneurons.io/event
We have created an Event for each category to be flown in the North American Cup. (F1A,F1B,F1C,F1C,F1P,F1Q).
There is a drop down menu labelled Event. Scroll down to the North American Cup event that you want to look at. (Choose 2026 please!)
We have pre-filled in the contestant names using the info obtained by the online registration system (thanks to Roger and Lindy!).
To begin the competition:
Please pick up a paper score card in the morning from the scoring table. Please fill in your name and event category.
To make a flight, find a time keeper and fly as usual.
After the flight, make sure your score is written on the card. Then, obtain an initial from a time keeper on your score card.
If the score has been entered on the card, the competitor has the option to walk across the field, wait in line to hand off the card, where we will then manually enter your scores in About Time, or press the Cloud button in the NeuroTrack App to upload the score directly.
The website will know your name and FAI ID, the time and location, and the event you fly and will place your score in the correct event and the correct round.
We still retain the score cards to allow for an audit of the results and to satisfy that the usual FAI methods are being followed.
Sending the score electronically saves both the competitor time, and the CD time.
The contest results will be available to anyone that wants to see them on the About time site.
A reminder, they can be found here: https://abouttime.flyingneurons.io/event
Note: this is a purely voluntary exercise to see if some aspects of the Free Flight competition can be electronically automated. We would like people to participate, but if you wish to use the standard methods with the paper score cards, by all means you can do so.
