Andre Schandel passed away May the 2nd
From: Marc MARILIER
Hello Roger,
I just heard from the newspaper and the French modelist network that the well know Andre Schandel passed away May the 2nd, he was 90 years old.
He was retired from being a public school director and was also at a high grade in reservist organization.
As well as many awards and recognitions from the French organizations, he was registered in the NFFS “Hall of fame” National Free Flight Society – USA, he also received the diploma Otto Lilliental Aero Club Germany.
He was for many years the leader of a free-flight club “les rapaces de l’Ill” in Strasbourg, he was also well known worldwide and particulary in France, for being being the editor during many years of the monthly magazine called in France “Vol Libre”.(Free Flight)
The memorial service will take place May the 9th in Strasbourg.
(Likely poorly translated by me from the newspaper annoncement) May all people knowing and liking him have a friendly thinking to him in that day :

Andre was very well known world wide for his work with Vol Libre. He was a very capable artist and his illustrations in Vol Libre captured the spirit of Free Flight. Even though he stopped producing Vol Libre some years back the drawings still appeared from time to time and were still relevant today. He made a significant contribution to Free Flight. We will think of him on Friday 9 May. He was one of those special people who have made a difference where ever he went.
