Reply to rules and Champs
From: John Carter

Re the model beyond line of unaided sight for the UK at least which I understand was a leader in establishing the international rules .
A remote pilot (you the launcher flyer ) must retain line of sight .So it’s nothing to do with the timekeeper ??
Remember you the remote pilot is free to move, ie down wind and on a bike or motorcycle can then see the model for a longer distance than the time keeper .YES !
Please do not confuse contest rules with international drone rules

John, thanks for the update .Interesting reminder that the civil aviation rules are probably evolving quite quickly and Free Flight is a rather specialized area often outside both full sized avaiation as well as R/C oriented model aviation’s field  of vision or should I say line of sight.  We do need to get our heads around it .

When we choose where our championship events are to be held there is voting at two levels. Firstly our delegates vote at the CIAM meetings based on direction they gat from their NAC.  But then there is another level of voting when it comes to each country’s Team Selection program. On one hand it is a great honor and experience to take part in a World Championship but to do that it is quite expensive in both time and money.  So the individual modeler or sportsman makes a personal decision  like the delegate did, something like is a Champs in that place going to be run properly and fairly so if I go there is the organizer going to run an event that I will enjoy taking part in so do I take part in the Team Selection program. . Will I a get a fair chance to do well at the event.  Are the facilities going to be up  Champs level. They balance this against the cost of getting to the event. The more expensive the travel the more demanding the sportsman will be on the expected quality of the event. For upcoming European events flyer from Asia and Oceania are more likey to be more demanding compared against  European nation that is close by and participants  can just drive there.    A number of countries seem to have difficulties with time keeping etc and while NACs turn on a special effort for category 1 events  performance in World Cup events is important information indication and current issues on CIAM rules does not help.
