day 2 comments

First – 7:15 AM flyoff for F1C. Perfect conditions. Calm, not very helpful air. Mike Roberts, launch a little off. Ron Mc Burnett a perfect launch that makes the difference. Also Ron used a flapper .

Good news as that later in the day Ron was able to retrieve his model from the previous day fly off from the solar energy plant, so diplomatic grovelling by Ron got the help of a supervisor who took him and his tracker to the model. The help very much appreciated.

First 4 Rounds in F1C day1 and F1B day , close to perfect with little little drift. Round 5 some very big thermals couple with dust devils but fairly easy to find. Round 6 F1B started, monster dust devil and a nasty front moved through. Wind speed increased to close to the limit and models started to go close to highway. The F1B round was completed and contest put on hold to see if wind would drop as font passed. After an extended delay and several iterations of holds the regular rounds were declared finished. Further hold to see if the wind would drop as it had the evening before so a fly off round could be flown. Unfortunately the wind did not drop so the flyoff is planed for the following AM.

We had a number of extra helpers who were most appreciated. Besides the FAI outdoor FF regulars like Matt and Gail Gewain and Mike Richardson,. the CD was Norm Furutani F1B World Cup Winner and USA Team member back in 1991, Carl Bogart from Texas , USA F1C regular back in to 70s and 80s plus 2 F1D Indoor World Champs , Steve Brown and Kang Lee. very interesting to comparer rubber notes with Kang and Steve, who are both from Southern California.
