Martyn Cowley

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Martyn Cowley late on Friday caused by a massive heart attack. Martyn was a total aviation person, interested in all aspects of model and full size aviation. He had participated at the top level of World Championship Free Flight flying F1C for the UK in his youth and F1A for the USA more recently. In the period 1995 to 2005 Martyn was the man to beat in F1H competition. Besides his International Free Flight activities, he had flown control line combat back in the 60s and 70s , flew indoor Free Flight and R/.C with the Blacksheep and did some R/C soaring. Martyn can be seen front and center in the Brian Furutani video taken at the recent Ike Winter Classic flying his vintage Gollywock. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44670670@N02/5449789243/in/set-72157625927009389/ Martyn was the editor of the Aeromodeller magazine before moving to the USA to join Paul McCready in the early days of Aerovironment where he remained working until his death. Martyn has tremendous enthusiasm for all things model aviation that was shown in how he took part in a broad spectrum of activities and supported others. One of his recent projects was mentoring the editor of the re-born Aeromodeller magazine. From time to time he would write for SEN under the pseudonym of Biggles. His articles were much appreciated and showed a dry wit and love of the sport.
