Visitors and More

This year we have a couple of distinguished visitors.  Both of them are office holders for model flying in the USA and are relatively new to their positions.

The first was Greg Stone, the AVP for AMA District X. For visitors, the AMA has divided the USA into districts for admin and representation on their executive council. California is in district X.  Greg has wide modeling interests. He is very interested in youth involvement and had helped to run a number of major Science Olympics events that include indoor free flight.  Greg had not been at a FF  event of any size and  met lots of people and enjoyed Gabby’s fine food truck food.

The second was Dave Lindley. Dave is the president of the NFFS and is based in Chicago.  Dave too has an all-round interest and involvement in Free Flight.  He has been heavily involved in the indoor scene. Dave is a very hands-on person.  He arrived during the North American Cup. The NA have large traditional manual score board. It takes about 2 people just to keep that up to date in an event of this size.  The team from Toronto were a little behind so he offered to help. Soon he was doing those good red dots and black numbers.  Dave has some exciting plans for NFFS, including a web site upgrade.  If you see Dave around be sure to talk to him about NFFS

We have 2 other dignitaries on the FAI side but these guys have been regular attendees for many years so they are ‘just’ one of us. The first is Ian Kaynes, the Chairman of the CIAM’s Free Flight Technical subcommittee.  Ian is a regular participant in both F1E and F1Q.   Sometimes we think that “those people” on the committees don’t know about regular flying.  Well, Ian does know, he flies with us and even makes a few little mistakes like us too. Ian’s wife Christine is his helper on the field and she REALLY knows what happening here as she is a regular at the Ladies Tea party.

Other FAI man is Per Findahl whose day job is a school teacher in Sweden so he is on the CIAM education committee. His winning record shows that the more you put into something the more you get out of it.

Lost my cooler

Walt Ghio  (f1bwalt@comcast.net)
Last Wednesday in the dark evening when I was packing the car after the North American Cup flyoff, I left a small cooler with F1B motors in it on the field. By chance has somebody picked it up. Thanks, Walt
